BDF Welcomes Its First Female Pilot in Historic Achievement

The Belize Defence Force (BDF) marked a historic milestone with the announcement of its first ever female pilot, Second Lieutenant Julia Puerto. This achievement is not only a personal triumph for Second Lieutenant Puerto but also a significant moment in the history of the force.  Puerto began her training at the Caribbean Military Academy, School of Aviation in January of 2023. Love News spoke to Major Roberta Usher about Puerto’s accomplishment being a source of inspiration for women in the military.

With Recruit Intake Number 67 is currently under training.  It is the BDF’s hope that more women leaders will be identified and elevated within the force.
