For months now, consumers have been complaining of a sudden increase of their electricity bills. The matter has been debated and vented multiple times on social media and the Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) had come out to explain that it has to do with extreme high temperatures. The complaints and concerns, however, have continued unabated on social media. Some believe that their electricity meters are not being read properly or are not being read at all. In response to the growing concerns by their customers the Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) reached out to Love News and explained how billing is done for every cycle. According to Sherman Ferguson, Service Delivery Supervisor, everything is done in a transparent process. He says the system in place monitors each customer’s monthly bill and if any given month there is a significant increase or decrease the system notifies a representative for verification.
BEL notes that customers can calculate their own bill by using the online calculator provided on the BEL website. The calculator has all the current rates the company offers to their customers.
