In celebration of Insurance Awareness week, the Belize Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (BELAIFA) and the Kidney Association of Belize held their annual health fair. The event, which was held today at the Lion’s Club in Belize City, centered on the importance of healthy living and being insured. A number of organizations from the Ministry of Health and Wellness partnered with the associations and provided free health check-ups. President of BELAIFA, Carol Panton-Rose, says the fair was held to educate the public on the importance of living a healthy life to prepare for the future.

Carol Panton Rose, President BELFAIFA: “The Insurance Association is celebrating our insurance awareness week and so every year around this time we take the time out to educate persons about the importance of having insurance but not only awareness we also like to offer ourselves and do service within our community. So today we are having a health fair. We are allowing persons to come out and do a free health checkup. Persons can come and get tested for HIV, they can come and get tested for diabetes, we have the Ministry of Health out here with several departments. We have HECOPAB, we have the Chest Clinic, we have the Dental Department of the Ministry of Health and we also have the National Drug Abuse Council out here and so we’re really promoting health today. Like I said persons can come out, we’re inviting everyone to come out. It’s a free checkup, know your HIV status, we’re also doing urinalysis  and blood pressure checks and as well you can go to the booths to get educated about health. We also have Alka Boost Water out here so it’s all about being healthy and we’re inviting the general public this is an opportunity we know a lot of the times something that people neglect the most is their health so just take one visit out here we’re out here from nine right up until three o’clock so we would really want people to come out and take the opportunity.”
