Belama Duo Remanded to Prison After Drug Bust Reveals Outstanding Court Fines

A Belama duo is on remand at the Belize Central prison after appearing in court for a drug bust which led to the reveal of outstanding court fines. On New Year’s Eve at around 5:30 am, police conducted a search in a Belama Phase 1 home where Selvin Waight and Rudolph Craig Jr. were discovered. Police were able to retrieve 33.5 grams of Marijuana from inside the residence. The duo appeared unrepresented before the court yesterday where they were read a single charge each of possession of a controlled drug and were initially offered bail in the sum of $2,000 plus one surety of the same amount until, their old outstanding fees were revealed. In 2020, Waight was fined $2,005 of which he only paid $400 since. And Craig Jr was indebted to the court for $860 for possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply in 2021. Both men were unable to pay the fines that were ordered by the court forthwith and so they were remanded to the Belize Central prison until February 28.
