Belize Adventist College in the Corozal District has launched several products through the implementation of an agricultural program supported by the Ministry of Investment and the organization Corozal Think Tank. The school recently held an exhibition for products such as pepper sauces and juices which were grown and processed right at the school by faculty and students. Under the project, the school constructed a nursery to produce vegetable seedlings, purchased drip irrigation equipment, and refurbished the school’s agro-processing unit. Thea Garcia-Ramirez, Chair of the Corozal Think Tank, explained that the organization was formed by a group of professionals who are passionate about the economic development of the Corozal District. Garcia-Ramirez said that economic diversification is part of the economic development plan for Corozal, which was coined in 2019 but reworked under the current government administration.
Garcia-Ramirez said that one of the major goals of the Corozal Think Tank is to support schools to secure funding for economic diversification projects.
Garcia-Ramirez says that the next school the Think Tank will be engaging is Corozal Community College.
