The Belize Airport Authority (BAA) is upgrading the infrastructure of municipal airports nationwide to bolster the country’s growing aviation sector. The BAA recently began upgrades in Belize City at the Sir Barry Bowen Municipal Airport. Since Monday, the road leading from Marion Jones Sporting Complex to Tropic Cargo has been closed for repair. The road rehabilitation will take approximately three weeks. In the interim, customers are advised to use the entrance from St. Matthew Street. Our newsroom was able to gather more details on the project from Thea Garcia-Ramirez, the General Manager of the BAA.
Garcia added that the authority also ensures the upkeep of runways, particularly at heavily trafficked ports like the John Grief Airport in San Pedro Town. For this particular municipality, upgrades are currently underway to facilitate late-night flights.
Garcia noted that other works are in the pipeline.
