Belize and U.S. Sign Border Security Agreement in Washington

Belize’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francis Fonseca, wrapped up an official visit to Washington D.C. today, marked by significant meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and addressing critical regional issues.  Earlier today, he met with US Congressman Brian Mast, Chair of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. Their discussions covered a range of vital topics, including the ongoing Belize-Guatemala territorial process, the security situation in Haiti, and opportunities under the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).  Other areas of mutual interest to Belize and the USA were also deliberated.  Also today, Minister Fonseca joined U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Governments of Belize and the United States of America. This agreement focuses on enhancing border security and public safety cooperation through information exchange, a crucial step in combating transnational crime.  Additionally, Minister Fonseca held a productive meeting with US Congressman Gregory Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, to further advance and strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations, alongside other key priorities.
