Belize Assumes Regional Leadership At CIRSA Meeting

Belize has officially assumed the presidency of the Regional International Agricultural Health Committee (CIRSA) during the opening of its 72nd Ordinary Meeting held in San Pedro today.The two-day event, which ends tomorrow has brought together Agriculture Ministers and Secretaries from across the region to discuss agricultural health and food security. José Abelardo Mai, Belize’s Minister of Agriculture, Food Security & Enterprise, was appointed as the new CIRSA President and emphasized the country’s commitment to enhancing regional cooperation on agricultural health. During the meeting, an award was presented to the outgoing president in recognition of their leadership. Key discussions on the first day included reports on the ongoing efforts to combat the Screwworm Infestation in livestock, a major regional concern, and updates on the work being done to address the issue with the help of international organizations. The meeting will continue tomorrow with further discussions on regional strategies and the selection of a new Director of Administration and Finance for OIRSA.
