Belize Audubon Society Hosts Great Backyard Bird Count Event

Over the weekend the Belize Audubon Society held the Great Backyard Bird Count, a community initiative designed to promote birdwatching in Belize. The event was done in collaboration with the Scouts Association of Belize and saw participation from twenty youths from Belize City. Dareece Chuc, Communications Director, BAS explained that the initiative exposes participants to various aspects of birding including the fact that there are over 200 bird species found in Belize City.

Chuc added that teaching youths about birding also opens them up to career opportunities since birding tourism is becoming increasingly popular.

Participating in the event also counted towards the scouts earning their bird-watching proficiency badges.
