We reported that critically acclaimed and most decorated Michelle Kwan has been appointed as the new U.S. Ambassador to Belize. Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Eamon Courtenay told Love news that the country awaits Kwan’s arrival.
Eamon Courtenay, Minister of Foreign Affairs: “We look forward to her arrival. We have looked at her CV and her work. She is an experienced diplomat. Most people regard her as a sportswoman, as a medalist and as a skier but in fact she has a tremendous amount of experience in diplomacy I am sure she will be an effective ambassador. We have been building on our relations with the United States, they are cordial, they are strong on different areas and an ambassador in Belize is long overdue so we look forward to receiving ambassador Kwan.”
Kwan will be the first substantive U.S. ambassador to Belize in more than five years. The last U.S. ambassador appointed to Belize was Carlos Moreno, whose tenure ended in January 2017. Since then, the highest ranking diplomats at the U.S. embassy in Belmopan have been the Chargé d’Affaires, Adrienne Galanek, Keith Gilges and currently, Leyla Moses-Ones.
