
Belize Awards Honor Contributions to Arts, Culture, Literature, and Heritage

Today seven Belizeans were honored for their contributions to the nation in arts, culture, literature, and heritage. The Belize Awards were created in 2021 to highlight and celebrate Belizeans for their contribution to the nation’s diversely rich history. The Belize @ 42 awards ceremony was held today as a part of the kick-off of the September Celebration and featured several Belizeans dedicated to nation-building with the use of various talents. Minister of Culture and Chairman of the National Celebration Commission, Francis Fonseca, explained the importance of recognizing Belizeans who promote and preserve Belizean heritage.

Minister Fonseca also explained that the various sectors of art play an important role in Belize’s orange economy.
Awardees included Carl Gordon, Godfrey Smith, Gregory Vernon, Beverly Swasey, Adrain “The Doc” Martinez, Aurora Saqui, and Egbert “Mimi” Martinez.
