Belize Boxing Development Council Gears Up for International Showcase Against Mexico

The year is winding down, but the Belize Boxing Development Council (BBDC) is aiming to close out with a bang, planning two major events. The BBDC’s first event kicks off this Friday in Belize City, with an amateur showcase where Belizean fighters will face off against Mexican fighters. President of the BBDC, Javier Romero, said that the exhibition will help Belizean fighters gain the necessary ring experience to push their professional careers forward.

Javier Romero, President, Belize Boxing Development Council: “This will feature local amateur Belizean boxers going up against their Mexican counterparts in what we’re calling Belize Vs Mexico Boxing Showdown. So the purpose of this event is to establish a good foundation for our grassroots fighters so that they can become the future of boxing here in Belize as the future professionals. These exhibition bouts are of utmost importance because it establishes the necessary foundation for our boxers to gain the necessary experience to be able to compete at the local, regional and international level. So the only way they are able to learn is if they are able to compete. And we’re providing the necessary conditions for that to happen. This is why we’re matching up these local fighters with their Mexican counterparts so that they may be able to exercise their abilities and to develop further as they progress in their careers.”

And for those looking for more high-level boxing, Belize’s Lightweight Boxing Champion Amir “King Mir” Rudon, is scheduled to have another career milestone fight on December 14. Romero says that the fight means a lot to Rudon’s career, but also to the sport of boxing in Belize.
