Some bus operators are not happy with Floralia’s plan to expand its bus runs to include the west and north routes. Currently, Floralia is operating primarily from the south, having runs into Belize City. According to the Secretary of the Belize Bus Association, Ewart Metzgen, the operators are concerned with how this will impact those who have been operating the northern and western routes for several years. Transport Minister Rodwell Ferguson says that the government is trying to work out a balance.
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Youth, Sports, and Transportation: “They recognise that Floralia is here to stay. They’re not going to go but they are saying, if you want a run, there can’t be any counteraction with what already existed. So we are trying to work with them and work with a balance that there will be no issue with Floralia and the operators. So, we had a very good meeting on Monday.”
Minister Ferguson says Floralia has submitted its application and the National Transport Board will make an announcement when a decision is reached.
