Cabinet Minister, Andre Perez, is currently on indefinite leave from office. The minister made a request to take temporary leave following a scandal where he has been accused of sexual harassment, and where his counterclaim is blackmail. A release from the Government of Belize has indicated that the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation portfolios are being temporarily handed over the Office of the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, an investigation will be carried out to probe into the allegations and counterclaims. According to the release, and we quote, “at the conclusion of the investigation, the Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs will advise the Prime Minister on whether there has been any actionable wrongdoing. During Minister Perez’s leave of absence, his portfolio duties will be temporarily reassigned to the Prime Minister. The Cabinet is confident that Minister Perez remains committed to and will continue to serve the interests of his constituents in Belize Rural South. In the meantime, the Cabinet respects Minister Perez’s privacy as he and his family work through this difficult situation.” End of quote./////
