Belize Celebrates Older Persons With Week of National Activities

This week, Belize is celebrating the wisdom and vibrancy of its older persons under the theme: “Advocating for Healthy and Inclusive Ageing.” The International Day of Older Persons, which was observed yesterday kicked off a week of local activities countrywide. Maria Elena Sylvestre, speaks
on behalf of a growing population of Older Persons which is about 6% of Belize’s wider population according to the 2021 Census.

Older Persons in Belize continue to grapple with a slew of issues as highlighted by Executive Director Ivorine Bulwer.

Bulwer told LOVE News that activities for older persons this week range from church services, educational sessions, to pool parties. Helpage Belize has been in existence for over four decades and today it continues to provide activities, programs, home visitation and meals on wheels for older
