Belize Celebrates World Tourism Day with Focus on Sustainable Tourism

The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) has released a message from Minister Anthony Mahler on the vital role of sustainable tourism in Belize.  The message comes as Belize joins other nations in observing World Tourism Day.  According to the Minister, the government has safeguarded thirty-six percent of its natural resources through dedicated conservation efforts.

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism: “This year’s theme “Tourism & Green Investments” underscores the importance of sustainable practices in the travel and tourism industry. Belize stands as a shining example of this connection. Belize’s tourism industry has long been recognized for its commitment to sustainable development. Sustainable tourism practices not only benefit the environment but also enhance the quality of travel experience for all our guests. Also sustainable tourism practices provide positive gains for our local communities. In a world where the preservation of our planet is of paramount importance Belize has dedicated itself to being a steward of our environment.”

Minister Mahler went to speak of a recently launched, Reef with a Beef, campaign.

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism: “On World Oceans Day we also launched the Reef with a Beef campaign using humor to raise awareness about ocean sustainability. We continue to support the instrumental work of our environmental NGO’s. The BTB also partnered with the Belize Audubon Society for its annual Greening Across Belize initiative which saw an additional three hundred shade trees being acquired for distribution on earth day. Belize is more than its breathtaking natural beauty. It is a tapestry of cultures, a testament to the richness of our human diversity. Our country is home to a vibrant mosaic of people and communities each contributing to our unique cultural heritage. Whether it’s the rhythms, the traditions, or the mouthwatering flavors of Belizean cuisine we welcome visitors with open arms to experience Belize. So as we celebrate World Tourism Day let us recognize that in Belize this is not just a theme for a single day it is a way of life. Together we can create a tourism sector that not only drives economic growth but also safeguards the natural wonders that make our world so unique.”

World Tourism Day is a global celebration recognizing the transformative influence of tourism on our lives and the global economy. This year’s theme: Tourism Green Investments underscores the critical importance of sustainable practices in the travel and tourism industry, resonating profoundly with Belize’s values and commitments.
