The Belize City Council has been recognized for its crucial support of the Yurumein Project, a vital initiative dedicated to the revitalization of Garifuna language and cultural traditions. Deputy Mayor Eluide Miller, representing Mayor Bernard Wagner and the council, accepted a token of appreciation at the Yurumein Project Appreciation Dinner, celebrating the project’s significant impact on community empowerment and cultural preservation. The Yurumein Project has been instrumental in preserving and promoting the rich Garifuna heritage, focusing particularly on the revitalization of the Garifuna language and the empowerment of Garifuna youth. Earlier this week, Dr. Jeremy Cayetano, Belize director for the Yurumein Project, spoke about the initiative.
Deputy Mayor Miller, speaking on behalf of Mayor Wagner and the Belize City Council, reiterated the council’s unwavering commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen and preserve Belize’s diverse cultural heritage. The Deputy Mayor also accepted a token of appreciation on behalf of Francis Fonseca, Minister of Culture, further highlighting the collaborative effort between local and national entities in supporting cultural preservation. /
