
Belize City Council Hosts Symposium on Hurricane Preparedness and Resilience

The Belize City Council hosted a symposium on what is the eve of the start of the hurricane season. The event saw several agencies speak and present on the Hurricane Lisa, its preparedness, recovery and post mortem. According to CEMO’s Liaison Officer, Melony Dawson, the objective of today’s session surrounded resilience.
Troy Smith was another presenter as the Operations Officer for the DANA sub-committee. According to Smith, his team is responsible for assessments on the damages following the natural disaster. He noted that there were three main areas in Belize City that was severely affected by Hurricane Lisa in 2022.
Other presentations were made by Belize City Mayor, Bernard Wagner, NEMO, Belize Electricity Limited, Belize Telemedia Limited and the Belize Red Cross.
