Another initiative coming out of the Belize City Council is a more online presence.  Soon to come is the ability to take the driver’s test online for first-time license holders.

Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “Some of those improvements we also want to deal with this year is to really enhance traffic ticket payments on line that is what we’re working on currently. We want to do a citizens complaints tracking online, we want to do our municipal court data base online. We have just finished, and this will be rolled out within next week or two the electronic driver’s license test that is totally electronic. No more pen and paper type arrangement you’ll see that being rolled out within the next week or so. We are looking at ensuring that the IP phone network switchover these are some of the projects that the MIS department has forwarded to me that they will be working on for the beginning of this year. We want to look at clean up, organizing all our servers, our switch room. We want to ensure that we have an active directory enhanced security. When we came here to City Hall the loopholes and the porous type of platform that we found was something to be desired. We have to ensure that we have a firewall network protection, overall stability and enhancement and these are some of the areas that our MIS department headed by Mr.Rene Cardona is working on to ensure that we are able to reach our residents and our residents are able to reach back to us as well in a safe environment and in an environment that is ease of business.”

As is, the council allows for several services online including the paying of certain fees including property taxes.

Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “Currently as it stands, and you know that when COVID came it really shifted how you do business, you had to begin to adapt to doing business more online rather than face to face and we were one of the first municipalities that was able to take advantage of our online services. You are able to pay property taxes online. You are able to pay liquor license fee online. You are able to access trade license information and the application online as we speak. So in a nutshell we have been at the forefront of innovation and technology and really streamlining our online services.”
