Belize City Council Launches Flood MitigationCampaign Ahead of Hurricane Season

With eleven days to the start of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, the Belize City Council is making its final push for preparations. This morning, the council launched a flood mitigation campaign targeting key flood-prone areas in the city. These areas include Dean Street, King Street, Berkeley Street, Queen Street, Freetown Road, and the Pound Yard area. The council will be clearing drains and doing cleanups in these areas. Mayor Bernard Wagner said that getting the city ready for the rainy season is a community effort and called on all city residents to do their part.

Wagner says that the council has been working closely with the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) for the preparations leading up to the hurricane season.

Wagner said that this year, the cleanup campaign replaced the annual symposium that the council holds at this time of year.
