Belize City Council Showcases New Heavy Machinery Acquisitions

Today, the Belize City Council presented several pieces of heavy machinery it was able to acquire during its time in office. The People’s United Party municipal body was elected back in 2018 and re-elected in 2021. The council says that since taking office, it has acquired several vehicles and assets that contribute to the city’s upkeep. Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner says that it was important to show the electorate where their tax dollars are going as municipal elections approach.

Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “Right when we came to the office in 2018 we had essentially one pick up truck. We have since been able to increase that to twelve pick up trucks. At one point in time they told us that “oh the type of pick up trucks that you’re getting will not last five years.” and now it’s six years but this council has always been about perseverance, about resilience. Remember we were supposed to go in after six months. It’s now six years so we just continue to show that we are resilient and we are here to really serve the people but serving the people important that you have to have the capabilities in terms of the heavy duty equipment, the pick up trucks for your special constables to be deployed, your traffic officers to be deployed so we wanted to continue to add to the fleet and as you could see here we have back hoes, we have graders and we want to continue to build along that line. As you see on the other end we’re even venturing into building the eco system of E-Mobility in Belize City. We want to be the pioneers in E-Mobility in the city and if the city is making that charge and driving this initiative it’s very important that we play the leading role in leading E-Mobility within Belize.”

The council also added two electric vehicles to its fleet today.
