Belize City Councilor Responds to Altercation Video, Claims Self-Defense

Belize City Councilor Evan Thompson released a statement today addressing a video circulating on social media that depicts him involved in an altercation. Thompson claims he was acting in self-defense after being aggressed, a version of events he says is corroborated by witnesses and law enforcement. While he was not arrested or detained, Thompson apologized for any negative perception caused by the incident and emphasized that it does not reflect on the Belize City Council or the People’s United Party. The video started circulating on Saturday Morning after it occurred at around 3 a.m. in front of Digi Park in the area known as “the party strip”. Thompson has chosen not to press charges and says he remains focused on serving the residents of Belize City.
