A Belize City fisherman is behind bars tonight after being caught red-handed attempting to burglarize the Supreme Court Library.  37-year-old, Kelvin Elvis Dickson, of Raleigh Street, was apprehended by a Ranger security guard in the early hours of yesterday morning before he could steal anything. He was later charged with burglary.  Dickson appeared before the Magistrate in Court #7 this evening, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge of burglary. According to the allegations, he entered the Supreme Court Library as a trespasser with the intent to steal but was caught in the act.  When asked if he wanted to explain his actions, the Magistrate advised Dickson to save his explanation for his trial.  The court prosecutor raised no objection to bail, and the Magistrate granted Dickson bail in the amount of $3,000, with the option of one surety or two sureties of $1,500 each. However, Dickson’s freedom was hindered by an outstanding court debt of $955 stemming from fines accrued between 2014 and 2022. The court ordered these fines to be paid immediately before bail could be processed.  Should Dickson manage to settle his outstanding debt and post bail, he will be required to adhere to strict conditions including the attendance of all court dates; avoiding contact or interference with any witnesses in the case; and refraining from being arrested or charged with any similar offenses, as this would result in his bail being revoked.  Dickson is set to return to court on January 22, 2025, for the continuation of his case.  For now, the fisherman remains in custody at the Belize Central Prison.
