Belize City man ambushed in fenced yard and killed, toddler shot

There were three separate shooting incidents last night in Belize City, one resulted in the death of a man, while two other men and two minors were injured. We begin our coverage of the violent night with the fatal shooting of 32-year-old Jermaine Alexander Carr who was shot multiple times in the face sometime after nine o’clock last night. He later died. Today the family told Love News that Carr was visiting his daughter at the residence when he was ambushed. Dalila Ical reports.

Dalila Ical reporting:

32 year old Jermaine Carr was visiting his daughter who resides with her mother at this residence on Neal Penn Road. It was something he did frequently.

Sometime around nine o’clock, he, his daughter and his daughter’s mother were outside the house talking. Family members say they were preparing for a game of dominos, when he was ambushed by a gunman who walked into the yard.

“He parked his cycle outside like he usually would and he came in and spoke to my sister about Britney and she stood by her father and when I looked the gunman just came in and started to shoot him in his face”

The family says Carr was shot at least four times in his face and had two injuries in one of his arms, which is believed he sustained as he tried to shield his face. Carr’s daughter escaped behind the house unhurt. Her mother who dashed inside the house was also unhurt.

But that was not the end of it. The gunman then turned on other members of the family who were inside the house.

“Then saw my mother in the chair with my sister-in-law and my two week old nice and shot in the house and my nephew got shot at the same time and right now we are trying to see what will happen because we don’t even know if he is going to walk and then he is only one and something.”

One-year-old Gregory Mena was shot in his right toes. One of three adults on the couch who was holding a two week old baby was grazed by a bullet in the left side of her jaw.

But who was the intended target? ASP Alejandro Cowo, Head of the Crime Investigation Branch says it may have been Carr.

ASP Alejandro Cowo – Head of the Crime Investigation Branch

“Well I know that the gunman went directly to Mr.Carr and thereafter he encountered the other persons that were inside of the house, and that is when he started firing shots at them.”

Police are still working to establish a motive for the murder but do not suspect it is gang related.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, Head of the Crime Investigation Branch

“We do not believe- or there is no indication up to now that it was related to the other shootings.”

Dalila Ical – Reporter

“Is Mr. Carr linked to gangs?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo, Head of the Crime Investigation Branch

“Not that we know, we have nothing on record in regard to Mr. Carr.”

“They killed Jermaine like that and it is really uncalled for because Jermaine is not a problem person, he was just about love.”

Police are looking for one suspect.
