Belize City Man Claims Police Planted Drugs on Him while in Custody

Thirty-one-year-old Wayne Kelly is out on bail after he was arraigned on several charges related to drugs and a domestic dispute. He appeared before Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser on the charges of harm, damage to property, trespassing, and possession of controlled drugs. Police detained him after he was accused of trespassing at his ex-girlfriend’s home, injuring her, and damaging her door. While he pleaded guilty to the charges, he alleges that when he was in police custody in Belize City’s Precinct One, officers searched him and planted thirty-five grams of marijuana. However, police say that the substance was found in his underwear. Kelly received bail of two thousand dollars, without any objections, but was ordered to stay away from his ex for the duration of the case. He goes back to court on July twenty-three.
