A Belize City man was fined over five hundred dollars today after pleading guilty to handling stolen goods. (COURT VO 1). Belize City resident, 21-year-old Seth Carrillo was charged with being in possession of five stolen five-gallon Crystal water bottles on Monday. In court, Carrillo explained he initially wasn’t certain the bottles were stolen but suspected they might be. He told the Magistrate that he buys and resells bottles as part of his business and that he had sold one of the five bottles. Police later found that bottle in the possession of the buyer, who then led them to Carrillo’s home, resulted in his arrest. Carrillo stated he had purchased the bottles for five dollars each and planned to resell them for $30 apiece. As a first-time offender, he was spared jail time but ordered to pay a $500 fine, plus a $5 court fee. He has until January 15, 2024, to pay the fine or face six months in prison.
