Belize City Man Fatally Shot Amid Suspected Land Dispute

Egbert Flowers is dead after what we have come to understand was the possible result of a land dispute. The 59-year-old Belizean driver, employed by Belize Waste control, was shot and killed early this morning as he was leaving his home on York Street, Belize City.  According to police reports, Flowers was exiting his yard around 4:25 a.m. when he was approached by a male individual who opened fire, hitting him multiple times.  Officers arrived on the scene around 4:30 a.m. and found Flowers’ lifeless body on the ground next to his motorcycle. Love News spoke with Assistant Commissioner of Police, Stacy Smith, who explained that the suspects are still at large. 

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Police are investigating the murder of Egbert Flowers, 59 year old Belizean of York Street Address Belize City which occurred on the early morning hours of June 2nd. The investigation has thus far revealed that Flowers was departing his residence at around 4:25am when he was accosted by an armed male individual who fired several shots fatally injuring him. Police are investigating this incident. This area is one which has video cameras, the police surveillance footage so they are being reviewed intently with a view to ascertain how this incident unfolded and with the view of ultimately making an arrest. From all indications it appears that he was indeed the intended target. That was not an area under the SOE.”

Reporter: Is he known to police ? 

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Mr.Flowers is not known to police.”

Flowers was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 6:04 a.m. We tried to reach out to members of his family, and they declined to comment /
