A Belize City man has been convicted for drug possession. Norris Leslie, a Mahogany Street resident, was convicted this morning in Belize City Magistrate’s Court for possession of crack cocaine. Leslie appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Black in Court 2 and pleaded guilty to the single charge of possession of a controlled drug. Police reported that on Sunday, July 6, Leslie was found with 0.5 grams of crack cocaine on Mahogany Street. Leslie was fined $150 plus a $5 court cost. He has until August 29 to pay, or he will face two months’ imprisonment. Magistrate Black stated that the non-custodial sentence was considered Leslie’s lack of prior drug convictions, his early guilty plea, and his acceptance of responsibility, which saved the court time.
