Belize City Man Fined for Stabbing Off-Duty Police Officer

A Belize City man was fined today, after pleading guilty to stabbing an off-duty police officer. Twenty-year-old Kijahe Molina appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today for his scheduled hearing on a charge of wounding. He was represented by attorney Hurl Hamilton and entered a guilty plea after receiving a sentencing indication. For his guilty plea, Molina was fined nine hundred dollars plus five dollars cost of court. Molina was also placed on a thousand-dollar peace bond. Under the bond, if he is charged for any other offense within the next year, he will have to pay a thousand dollars and in default of payment, he will have to spend six weeks in prison. The incident occurred on July 18, 2023, at Goodwill Supermarket in Belize City. Molina had gone to the supermarket to buy, but Police Constable Zani Zavala told him that he could not go inside because the store was closing. During the exchange, Molina pulled out a knife and stabbed PC Zavala in the left arm.
