A Belize City man is serving a three-month sentence for robbery after being caught wearing his victim’s stolen school bag. 32-year-old Karon Santos, a laborer, pleaded guilty to robbery this morning before Magistrate Ludlow Black. Santos admitted to using force to rob 38-year-old Ronald Lopez of his school bag, which contained clothes, a social security card, $300 cash, and a cellphone, totaling $450. Santos denied using a knife, a claim contradicted by the victim. Police apprehended Santos shortly after the Friday, July 11 robbery on Cemetery Road, finding him in possession of the stolen bag and phone. Santos, who is not a first-time offender, claimed to be homeless and jobless. His previous conviction was for escaping lawful custody.
