Belize City Man Remanded for Murder and Attempted Murder in Weekend Shooting

A 22-year-old Belize City resident, Peter Amado Lara, was arraigned and remanded to prison today for the murder of Mark Anthony Leslie Waight and the attempted murder of Waight’s cousin, Francis Herbert.  The shooting incident occurred on Saturday, January 25. Waight was fatally wounded while standing in front of a yard, and Herbert sustained serious injuries.  Lara appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate, and was charged with murder, attempted murder, dangerous harm, and use of deadly means of harm. No plea was taken, and bail was denied. Lara will return to court on April 28, 2025.
