Belize City Man Shot Dead in a Case of Mistaken Identity

Tonight, a resident of Santa Barbara Street is dead after he was fatally shot last night in Belize City. According to authorities, the incident is believed to be a case of mistaken identity. Around six-thirty last night, forty-nine-year-old James Wilfred Gordon had gone to collect money from a man on Meighan Avenue when he was approached by two gunmen. One of the assailants unleashed a hail of bullets at Gordon, fatally injuring him. According to Assistant Superintendent of Police, Alejandro Cowo, Gordon ran into the yard where he collapsed and died.

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City: “What we understand is that Mr.Gordon had just arrived at that location where he went to meet someone who had some money for him  and whilst he was waiting for the person two persons riding separate bicycles approached him and one of the persons fired several shots at him causing his fatal injuries. So far have been able to view some footage and when police checked the body upon their arrival he was checked and there was no kind of money on his possession at the moment when police searched him. We believe it is not possible anything with gang and as a matter of fact we believe that he was not the target but somebody who was inside the yard at the moment.”
