Belize City Man Stabbed to Death a Stone’s Throws Away from Home

Tonight, a Belize City family is grappling with the loss of their loved one after he was gruesomely murdered over the weekend by men he considered his friends. The victim, a twenty-three-year-old call center agent was a stone’s throw away from the Raccoon Street Police Station when he was stabbed to death. The incident has resulted in two Belize City men being charged with murder. Reporter Vejea Alvarez spoke to the bereaved family in the following report.

David Cadle, Step-father of the Deceased: Why? That is the burning question.

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: Tonight the family of 23 year old Emroy Tracey is left clueless as to why he was gruesomely stabbed to death a stone’s throw away from his home. According to ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, just after 3 o’clock on Saturday afternoon, Tracey was at a neighbour’s house socialising when he came under attack.

ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Public Relations, Belize Police Dept.: Initial investigation revealed that Tracey was at the corner of Curassow and Iguana Streets when he got into an altercation with two other men and one of them took out a knife and inflicted his fatal injuries to him. We know that police have two persons detained.

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: Those two men, 36 year old Gilroy Thomas and 24 year old Tariq Swaso have since been charged for Tracey’s murder and according to Tracey’s step-father, David Cadle, they are no strangers to the family. He says that Tracey considered the men to be his friends but ultimately proved more to be his foes.

David Cadle, Step-father of the Deceased: “They were hanging out Friday night. Based on information that was passed to me, because I was at work Friday night, they were hanging out outside. He gave them whatever small change he had in his pocket and he went and asked for food and my Mrs. told Emerald to give them the food. In the morning, they said hello to my Mrs. on her way to and from market and in the afternoon while I was about to take a shower because I was working again the night, banging on the door, ‘moms, moms, they’re killing your son over there.’ So I just hurried and put on my pants. I went across only to see my stepson there on the ground, blood all over the place.”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News:: To make matters worse, Cadle says a number of people watched as Tracey was beaten and stabbed multiple times.

David Cadle, Step-father of the Deceased: “Right, I asked, why couldn’t anybody try to stop this? Oh nobody big or adult enough was here. There were only females in the yard. I said, geez! You mean you people in this yard, even though only females are here, the were no boards, no anything lying around in the yard that you could try to stop these two from doing what they were doing? Oh, we don’t keep any boards in the yard because of the children. What kind of nonsense is that?”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: Sir, so several people watched your son being stabbed to death?

David Cadle, Step-father of the Deceased: “Yes! Yes. RIght, yes. Shux even if it was with the frying pan, cuff one of them in the head or something.”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: As to why Tracey was viciously attacked by men he called his friends, Cadle says he believes it was due to his stepson not wanting to buy more alcohol for the men.

David Cadle, Step-father of the Deceased: I can only surmise that they wanted money from him because he had money on him and he was unwilling.”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: Tracey’s family is left heartbroken as his sister, Emily Spencer, describes him as the life of the family. She says that her brother was a hard working man who spent most of his time with his nieces and nephews.

Emily Spencer, Sister: “He is always spending time with his niece and his nephews laughing. As in the videos that we have that we are watching, he laughs, he dances, he plays with them. He is out there with his niece. He doesn’t have any problem with anybody. He is just a sweet sweet loving person.”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News:  Tracey was employed at Emerald BPO in Belize City from October 2021 up to his death. His family is now in the process of making funeral arrangements. Reporting for Love News, I am Vejea Alvarez.
