A Belize City man is in police custody after he allegedly stabbed 49-year-old, Miguel Zaiden on Sunday night. Reports say that Zaiden was socializing at a residence on Racecourse Street when he was approached by his attacker. An argument ensued between the men which resulted in Zaiden being stabbed several times. Zaiden attempted to flee the area on his motorcycle but collapsed moments after. Police Press Officer, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood shared more details on the incident.
ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Public Relations, Belize Police Department: “Initial investigation revealed that about 7pm he was socializing with other persons on Racecourse Street when he was approached by a male person and an argument ensued. The suspect then inflicted the stab wounds and left the scene. Zaiden attempted to leave the scene on his motorbike but fell to the ground. We do have the suspect detained and we hope to file charges against him. They were socializing. Apparently that person was with them earlier and then that person returned and an argument began between him and Zaiden. Of course we had other witnesses who were there also so hopefully the investigators know exactly what’s happening.”
Reporter: Is there any evidence to suggest that Mr.Zaiden made a report against his attacker prior ?
ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Public Relations, Belize Police Department: “Well like I said this report was sent to me early this morning so I couldn’t really say whether or not he made a report. I know that often times when Mr.Zaiden is out socializing and gets intoxicated he would come into these little arguments with people. This of course being that I know him for some years but he’s never the type to initiate violence towards anybody. So I don’t know what went wrong between him and his associates, his friends out there to have caused this. “
Love News spoke to family members of the accused who said that Zaiden was constantly provoking and cursing them.
