Here in the city, police are investigating an attempted murder that occurred over the weekend in Belize City. At around five fifty yesterday evening, twenty six year old Ryan Foster and another man were riding their bicycles on Sarstoon Street, when they came under fire from two men that were double riding. According to Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood, police are currently interviewing suspects at this time.
ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Public Relations Officer, Belize Police Department: “Ryan Foster was riding along with another male person on Sunday when approaching an area on Sarstoon Street they heard shots ring out. Foster was hit and transported to KHMH where he is listed in a stable condition. Suspects so far we are interviewing persons of interest but up to this time we haven’t brought any charges against anyone.”
According to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, the shooting is the result of ongoing gang rivalry between criminal elements in that area.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “In terms of the shooting we had yesterday in the Sarstoon Street area again there is an intense rivalry between the two groups in the Mayflower area and that rivalry as you’d know has also produced a number of deaths and shootings earlier this year. Again we have put a lot of resources there to stem these incidents and the truth is credit to the police we have seen remarkable reduction in the amount of incidents in the area. It shows that the work the police is doing is really and truly making an impact and the police cannot prevent everything from happening so we just have to continue to do what we’re doing with a view to prevent any further incidents within the area.”
Police investigation’s continue.
