Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner Appointed to UN Advisory Group

Belize City Mayor, Bernard Wagner has been appointed as a member of the Advisory Group on Local and Regional Governments to the Secretary General of the United Nations.  The mandate of the Advisory Group is to advise the United Nations Secretary-General on matters pertaining to local and regional governments.  The group is tasked to keep the office informed of decisions made by member states, as they relate to the implementation of international agreements and standards on issues such as sustainable development, gender equality, social inclusion, climate action, the new urban agenda and human rights.  There are twenty appointed members to the Advisory Group, with representation from countries all over the world. Mayor Wagner is one of just three members representing Latin American and the Caribbean region. The Advisory Group will be officially launched on October 6, 2023 in New York.
