Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner Likely to Be Endorsed for Third Term ?

The rumor mill is ripe with reports that Belize City Mayor, Bernard Wagner will be endorsed for the upcoming municipal elections.  The PUP Secretariat is yet to make an official announcement, but our sources have been credible, and have been offering the same narrative.  Wagner is a two-time mayor, and is seeking a third term in office.  He had indicated on multiple occasions that he would only run if he is endorsed, and would not go into a convention.  But when Allan Pollard threw in his name for Mayor, things got complicated.  Best information tonight, however, is that Wagner will be the man for the 2024 municipals.  Love News spoke with Wagner, asking if he feels that he had forced the party’s hand.

Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “Well that is good news. I haven’t heard about it. I haven’t gotten anything in writing as yet. But I remain optimistic and come what may be will be.”

Reporter: Do you feel that you forced the party’s hand given that you said that you weren’t going to a convention? 

Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “No, not really. I didn’t force anyone’s hand. I never had no gun on nobody’s head. I gave them my terms and my condition which is my right.”

Reporter: Nothing official but have you heard? 

Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “I have not heard anything official so I can’t even confirm my good friend here confirmation on that.”
