Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner is standing his ground about wanting and endorsement for his candidacy in the upcoming municipal elections. However, when the People’s United Party issued a list of upcoming conventions for municipal slates, Belize City was on the list. There were rumors that Wagner would have been endorsed, but when Love News caught up to him at the Belize Market Expo on Saturday, he could not confirm that he would be. Here’s what he had to say.
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “I’ve been hearing a lot of stories but again I can’t confirm anything any truth to those stories I am still awaiting the decision of the party.”
Reporter: So your position in terms of an endorsement has that changed?
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “No that has not changed that remains. Again it’s up to the party, the party has that right to make that determination on having a convention or not having a convention. But I’m saying that nothing has changed. To the best of my knowledge, I have not received any sort of confirmation.”
Wagner, a career banker, is a two-time mayor who was first elected in 2018. Current Deputy Mayor Allan Pollard, who wishes to enter the race for Mayor, told us that he is also not backing down and intends to have his name on the ballot as a mayoral candidate.
