Belize City Mother Appeals for Help After Hurricane Destruction

A Belize City mother of three has turned to the media tonight, after appealing to several officials for help and getting none.  24-year-old, Britney Jones, has had a tumultuous past, and is a surviving victim of rape and domestic abuse.  She has been trying hard to stabilize her life and that of her children, but it has been an uphill battle for her.  According to Jones, she has been persistent in asking for help, and now finds that her Area Representative has been avoiding her, and the other agencies she has gone to, have ignored her appeal for help.  She now feels that this is her last resort to try and get some help after Hurricane Lisa destroyed her home, on her family land, and she cannot afford to rebuild, and is struggling to pay rent, while caring for her three children.

Britney Jones, Mother of Three: “I have a family yard at 32 Fabers Road. I used to have a house there but the hurricane destroyed my house. I walk around for help and assistance. I do not get the assistance I’m looking for. Right now I’m paying rent but currently I have a job. It’s not much, but I thank God for it. I cannot pay the rent how I want it because I owe two months rent. And I went all over the place for help. Not because I have a smile on my face I dress decent every day means I’m very happy. I go through a lot. I don’t need money. I need a house. Right now I’m in Mr. Henry Usher’s area. Every time I go to see him they tell me he’s not there, he’s not there. You go to the credit union, you do not see him. So right now I went to Red Cross, all women’s apartments. All departments where I think could have helped me and I have not gotten the assistance I need. So I made my decision to come on the news. People could see, you can hear, you can know I’m not getting any assistance, no way I turn. And I need the assistance with a house. Once I get a house, it’s good for me.”

Jones mentioned that she is trying to turn her life over for the betterment of her children.
