A Belize City man was fined at the Magistrate’s Court today after pleading guilty to drug trafficking. Thirty-eight-year-old Rudolph Mossiah was unrepresented as he faced charges of possession of controlled drugs with the intent to supply another, in relation to seven and a half kilos of marijuana. Despite a guilty plea and no prior convictions for drug offenses, Mossiah was given the maximum fine of ten thousand dollars. He was ordered to pay half his fine by December 2024, and the balance by June 2025. If he fails to make payment, he faces three years in jail. Police say that on June 29, they received intelligence of drugs being smuggled, and conducted a search on a green van parked on Central American Boulevard. Mossiah was driving the van, along with his commonlaw wife and child in the passenger seat. He and his commonlaw wife were jointly charged, but with his guilty plea, the charge against her was withdrawn.
