Fire officials are investigating yet another fire, this time in Belize City. Police were called out to Oleander Street on Saturday night at around ten o’clock, and upon making checks, they found a concrete bungalow house on fire. The occupant Glenford Webster told Love News that he was out at the time of the fire, but fire officials say that Webster may have been responsible. Here is how Station Supervisor, Kenneth Mortis, explained it to the media.
Kenneth Mortis, Station Manager, National Fire Service: “Oleander fire is a funny one so to speak, not humorous but funny because we arrived and we confirmed that the structure was occupied by a fellow Mr.Bennet I believe his name was. We only gathered that he had mental issues and he ignited this house on fire after having a lengthy one on one conversation with himself and then he fled the scene. This is something that since 2023 has started, this is a common trend whereby we respond to these types of fires and we hear that it’s someone with a mental issue that’s responsible for these fires. If I’m not mistaken the statistics will show that to date seven of these fires are result of someone talking to themselves and finally setting alight these buildings on fire.”
Webster resided alone at the house. Love News understands that the house nor its contents were insured.
