Belize City Resident Remanded Over Firearms-Related Charges

Belize City resident, twenty-two-year-old Tashane Clarence Williams, was remanded to the Belize Central Prison today over firearms-related charges. Williams appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court charged with one count of kept unlicensed firearm and one count of kept unlicensed ammunition. He pleaded not guilty to both charges but since the offenses involved firearms, bail could not be offered in the first instance. He is due back in court on January 5, 2024. On Tuesday, October 24, police on patrol near Aloe Vera Street responded to the sound of a gunshot and found someone fleeing the scene.  Police pursued the suspect who reportedly threw away a nine-millimeter pistol while trying to escape. He was later apprehended by police.
