Belize City Resident Sentenced to Prison for Fleeing While on Bail

Belize City resident, 33-year-old, Ervin Fitzgibbon, was sentenced to three months in prison today after fleeing the country while he was out on bail. Fitzgibbon appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this evening where he was charged with four counts of contempt of a judicial order. He wasted no time in pleading guilty to the charges and was sentenced to three months per offense.  Since the sentences will run concurrently, he will only spend three months. Fitzgibbon was charged for gang affiliation back in 2022 and was granted bail by the High Court. Whilst out on bail, he absconded to the United States but was later apprehended by US authorities and deported to Belize. Fitzgibbons is set to be released on October 11.
