Belize City Taxi Driver Fatally Stabbed Outside Faber’s Road Bar

A Belize City taxi man was killed early this morning in the Faber’s Road area.  43-year-old, Shawn Ortiz of a Fern Lane address had just left Stephen’s Club in the company of 46-year-old, Aston Lewis when they got into an altercation with a group of men.  The situation escalated and Ortiz was stabbed to the left side of the chest.  He was taken to the KHMH but was pronounced dead just before five o’clock this morning.  Love News understands that at around three o’clock both Ortiz and Lewis had just left the bar, located off Faber’s Road when the homicide unfolded.  Investigators were alerted of the incident, and upon arriving at the emergency section of the hospital, they found Ortiz already dead.  The scene was processed and surveillance footage has been gathered to further the investigation.  ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander of the Eastern Division gave further insight into the investigation. 

ASP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division: “On Sunday the 3rd day of November 2024 police responded to a stabbing incident at Jaguar Avenue in Belize City. Upon their arrival police learnt that the victim had been taken to the KHMH for treatment. Police visited the KHMH where they found Shawn Ortiz with stab wound injuries and he was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigation revealed that Shawn Ortiz was involved in a fight in the area of Jaguar Avenue with other persons one of whom inflicted the fatal stab injuries to him. We are seeking three suspects in regards to this report. We do not have motive at this time. They were all involved in the fight at Jaguar Avenue.”

Ortiz appears in our news archives back in 2008 when he was shot at near Water Lane in Belize City. He also appears in 2006 when he got into an altercation with police officers.
