Belize City Technician Remanded for Attempted Murder After Machete Attack

A disagreement over a vehicle audio repair job has resulted in one Belize City man being remanded to prison on attempted murder charges.  Forty-five-year-old Phillip Goff, an electronic technician of North Creek, Belize City, was arraigned on Tuesday in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on three indictable offenses: attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and dangerous harm upon thirty-five-year-old Nelson Nolberto. Goff was escorted to court where the charges were read before Magistrate Neeshad Mohammed. Due to the serious nature of the allegations, no plea was taken and bail was denied. Goff was subsequently remanded to the Belize Central Prison until July 28.  While before the court, Goff maintained that he was not the aggressor in the incident and claimed he acted in self-defense.  According to Goff, he was purchasing a Boledo ticket when Nolberto allegedly confronted him and attacked him. Goff told the court that he suffered injuries to his eyes during the altercation and had difficulty seeing.  Police say the incident occurred at A&G Shop located at the corner of Baymen Avenue and St. Joseph Street in Belize City. Investigators report that Nolberto had previously paid Goff in 2025 to repair an amplifier and vehicle deck. When the two men encountered each other at the shop, an argument reportedly broke out over the matter.  According to Nolberto’s statement to police, the confrontation escalated when Goff allegedly retrieved a machete from his vehicle and inflicted chop wounds on him. Police say Nolberto sustained injuries to the neck area during the incident.  The matter remains under investigation as Goff awaits his next court appearance later this month.
