Belize City woman robbed at gunpoint

Fifty-five-year-old, Maria Perez, reported that she was robbed at gunpoint on Church Street in Belize City in the wee hours of Saturday morning. The incident took place at approximately 4:55 am when Perez was walking towards George Street from the direction of West Canal Street. According to Perez, she was approached from behind by a slim, dark male, who was about 5 feet 7 inches tall. The perpetrator was wearing a black shirt with a hoodie on his head and gray shorts. The man pointed a black object at Perez’s head, which appeared to be a firearm, and grabbed her bag. A struggle ensued, but the man managed to overpower her and throw her to the ground. He then fled towards George Street, making off with her bag, which contained several valuable items. The bag was reportedly valued at $65, and it contained a Redmi Note 10 cell phone valued at $800, a pair of white Samsung headphones valued at $20, a pink notebook valued at $5, a red wallet $20, which contained $17, her social security card, and voter’s identification card. Pérez’s lunch, valued at $10, was also in the bag. The total value of the stolen items is 965 Belize dollars. Police are conducting an investigation into this incident.
