Belize City Youth Learn how to be Money Smart

Teaching children, the importance of saving for a rainy day was the goal of the US Embassy’s Money Smart Program. Yesterday a closing ceremony for the three-month initiative, which was a collaboration between the US Embassy, the Holy Redeemer Credit Union, and the Ministry of Education, was held in Belmopan. The financial literacy program focused on teaching primary school students of southside Belize City the value of money and how to spend it wisely. Dr. Carol Babb, Director of Peaceworks Belize, spoke about the significance of teaching students to be money smart.

The US Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires, Leyla Moses-Ones says that the program was specifically tailored to provide youth with the foundation of responsible money management.

The schools that participated in the program were St. John’s Vianney. St. John’s Anglican, and the Unity Presbyterian primary schools.
