The visit of the Mexican President to Belize over the weekend came as both Belize and Mexico play host to the military program, Exercise Tradewinds 2022. The military activity, which continues through to May 21, is a joint security forces and interagency exercise and is sponsored by the United States Southern Command (US South COM). This initiative focuses on the interoperability between security forces and partner agencies to counter transnational crimes. At the same time, it will promote regional security and stability against threats and natural disasters. It will also further enhance the participating nations’ ability to conduct joint humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations. Prime Minister John Briceno underscored the importance of the exercise.
Kevin Bostic, the Director of Southern Command Exercises and Coalition Affairs encouraged the soldiers, who are participating, to use this opportunity to be better people than they were before.
More than 1,900 military personnel from 22 nations are participating including countries across CARICOM and as far as France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
