Belize Coast Guard Opens Recruitment for New Recruits

The Belize Coast Guard is now welcoming applications for a new set of recruits.  It has been some years now since the BCG had a recruitment, and according to Rear Admiral Elton Bennett, they are welcoming anyone who wants to join the team.

RADM Elton Bennett, BCG Commandant: “It’s been a long time, it’s been a few years that we have not had the opportunity to recruit. So this is exciting for us and I’m sure there are many candidates out there that are looking forward to serve the nation to answer the call and to be a part of the Belize Coast Guard. So what we’re doing now is to commence a recruiting process. We’re looking for young Belizeans between the ages of 18 and 26, minimum of a high school diploma, be physically fit and know how to swim. You must have a clean police record and you must be able to be prepared to transition from a civilian into a military personnel. So we’re looking for bright, vibrant, energetic Belizeans at this stage. So we’re recruiting male and females. There are no restrictions at all as it relates to numbers. There are no restrictions on where a male or female is posted or how a male or female is employed in the Belize Coast Guard. So we are very open to numbers.”

While the Belize Coast Guard is welcoming applicants to the organization, Commandant Elton Bennett made it clear that weed smokers and drug users should not bother applying.

RADM Elton Bennett, BCG Commandant: “We believe that the credibility of our organization really starts at recruiting. Therefore our screening is very stringent. We go through a very rigid recruiting and screening process from screening applications into joining and even up to the point of graduation. So there’s a series of requirements that needs to be met. First, you must be drug-free. You will do a drug test so expect that. If you know that you’ve been involved with drug use, then don’t bother you will be tested. And there is also a complete medical screening and medical tests that is conducted just to ensure that the candidates that we form up on a recruit training day, that they have met all the medical standards required.”

The deadline to apply is July 17.
