The Belize Coast Guard believes in working hard, and playing hard, as they participate in various sporting activities year-round. While they have had to cancel one of their own events, they did get the chance to participate in events such as La Ruta Maya. Captain Elton Bennett, Commandant of the BCG spoke to Love News about their performance in these recreational activities.
CPT. Elton Bennett, Commandant, Belize Coast Guard: “Unfortunately we had to cancel our Wonder Woman competition which was scheduled for March, Women’s Month, we had to postpone but we were able to do La Ruta Maya earlier this year just before the COVID outbreak. We came second over all and I think that’s our best finish since we started to participate in that competition, we had two teams a full male team and a mixed team that participated in La Ruta Maya. We also have a cycling team a full Coast Guard team, six men sponsored by Digi and they did well in first quarter as well. We have one member Nashen Ysaguirre who won the Valentine Tour that’s in February and then we had second place in the Krem Classic the New Year Classic Joslyn Chavarria came second and we were going to win the Holy Saturday Cross Country Race had it not been for COVID-19.”
The BCG also has the Best Warrior Competition, which is still currently set for November.
